Everyday Meals Meat Box

The Everyday Meals Meat Box is our personal favourite and the box we started with. When we talked to customers the biggest barrier to accessing farm meats was lack of storage space and the upfront financial investment. We set out to solve this by offering a mixed protein box that would be delivered monthly, contain a variety of proteins and cuts, as well as standard ground beef and ground pork. This box changes each month, often themed for the month or time of year.

Good quality meat makes cooking easy

Variety Meat Box

The Variety Meat Box is where we started. When an animal is butchered there are so many different cuts available, ones that are rarely found in a store unless its a specialty butcher shop. "Special" cuts often come with a bigger price tag when they don't need to so we wanted to bring that variety to your kitchen at a reasonable cost. After all, we've all found and saved that amazing recipe but we don't have the right cut of meat, now you do.

Each box contains a variety of beef, pork, chicken, and eggs

No one wants to eat the same thing on repeat. So we created a box that has a little bit of everything for those that want to change it up. The cuts vary each month, which keeps away the recipe dulldrums. Not sure how to cook a specific cut you've received? Just shoot us a message and we are happy to share our family favourites!

Variety of meats without the storage space

The benefit of buying a whole or half animal is that you get all the available cuts. The downside is the upfront cost and the storage space. Purchasing a subscription for the Variety Meat box gives you the benefits of a bulk meat purchase, without having to store three different types of proteins in your freezer.

Health benefits of eating a variety applies to your meats too

So many nutrients come from different foods that we intake. We know firsthand how easy it is to get stuck making the same dozen meals that you know your family will eat. By bringing delicious meats in lots of different cuts you can introduce different meals to your family and know they will taste delicious.

More variety = more nutrients = healthier family.

Bulk purchase cost without the upfront investment

The Variety Meat Box is by far the best bang for your buck. Since all of the cuts in this box are raised here on the farm, butchered locally, and delivered straight to your door, more of your money is going straight into your freezer as nutritionally dense and healthy meats. Each month you get a different combination of beef, pork, chicken, as well as three dozen eggs. We do try to keep the seasons in mind, as well as holidays, but they are a surprise.

Butchered at inspected Manitoba facilities

We want to make sure that every dollar spend here ends up directly in a small family operation's pockets. Our large animals are processed in Killarney, MB at Killarney Meats. The chickens are killed at Waldner Meats in Niverville after which we piece them out ourselves in a local commercial kitchen.

Eggs washed in clean warm water, no chemicals

As eggs are laid with a natural coating to prevent the intrusion of bacterias through the porous shell we wash our eggs with simply warm water just before they are sold.

We Can't Say It Enough,

Nutrition Just Tastes Better

January 2023 Variety Meat Box

This was a "cold-weather" meat box if there ever was. Stew, bacon, pork chops, and a shoulder roast are all handy for those busy days between sports and school. While we had been making meat bundles for people for quite a while, this was the first variety meat box that we launched. It was a super exciting as we all wanted to put our favourite things into it!

April 2023 Variety Meat Box

This meat box was designed with Easter and family in mind. We added breakfast sausages and a ham for those Easter mornings and dinners. Funnily enough, Brian doesn't really like traditional breakfast sausages, however the meat blend on these as well as the seasoning mix has made him a convert to the breakfast sausage club!

August 2023 Variety Meat Box

August is Brian's birthday month so this box Had to include rib eye steaks. This is a popular cut and when its raised in a low stress environment, on pastures for the majority of its life, this steak is the best thing to hit your plate. As its full blown summer mode around here, this box included things for the fire pit and grill as well.

January 2024 Variety Meat Box

Winter has arrived in Full Force with the wind just blasting across the prairies these days. When Brian and the kids saw the forecast they knew this meat box was going to have to be a warm dinners meat box.

And just to do something different, we've made a video of it for you! Click the image or the button below to see Brian go through the contents of the January 2024 meat box.

Meat Raised as Nature Intended

Feeding your family from a farm family

Brian's dream of Evergreen Alley came through the much laughed about "gateway animal" of chickens. He was looking for a way build his kid's education funds when a neighbour wanted to re-home their laying flock. Meat birds were next, then pigs. A couple steers for the family's freezers were added in and as it goes, if you're feeding 3 why not 10...

A small group of cows were added in 2020 and during that drought year we kept coming across information about regenerating land using livestock, this became a huge interest for Alicia. We had the animals and were able to acquire some grasslands in 2021. The responses to the meats we had produced and sold were so impressive that we wanted to make it available to more people.

So here we are, creating and delivering meats in family friendly packages so everyone can have farm quality meat on their tables.

You have a right to quality and nutritious food for you and your family. We make it easy by bringing it to your door.

Nutrients Instead of Empty Calories

Be confident that these animals ate the things they should...

The livestock at Evergreen Alley eat pastures grasses, forages, and grains. We know where your meat came from and because meat takes on the flavour of its environment we keep it outside and fresh.

Nutrients mean Flavour...

Food is fuel and we are what we eat. Proper nutrient cycling means that the nutrients an animal consumes goes into their tissues, with some returned to the soil to ensure good regrowth of pastures. The better this is managed, the more nutrient dense the forages are, the meat becomes, and the healthier you are. (Haynes & Williams, 1993)

Omega-3's are known to be helpful anti-inflammatory components...

Omega 3's are found within the intramuscular fat of forage fed beef animals. This is called marbling and is full of key fatty acids. (Troy, Tiwari, & Joo, 2016) The superficial fat that an animal gains with high energy feeds designed for quick gains often lead to a high level of Omega 6 and 9's, associated with creating inflammation in the animals.

Signs of healthy meat include a brightness to the fat...

A slight yellow tint on the fat is a sign of grassfed beef, however a brightness to the fat is key. Brightness or shininess of the cut surface indicates freshness, good meat pH, adequate muscle glycogen or muscle sugars, and likelihood of quality. (Dr. Anibal Pordomingo, Stockman Grass Farmer)

Meat requires fat to maintain moisture and not burn...

Meat requires marbling and fat to ensure it remains moist and doesn't burn while cooking. This is a key feature of well raised meat while lean beef is often improperly finished and has fats added to create a passable ground beef. (Dr. Anibal Pordomingo, Stockman Grass Farmer)

Learning and changing as we grow...

We do everything we can to keep learning and developing products that are good for you, the land, our farm, and our community as a whole.

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS IN EACH BOX?

The Summer box contains cuts specifically designed with summer in mind. They can be whipped up into a quick meal for busy days, cooked over a campfire, tossed on the BBQ, whatever your creativity can come up with.

WHAT ARE YOUR ANIMALS FED?

The livestock at Evergreen Alley are fed a combination of feeds depending on the stage of growth. Chickens are fed special feed for chicks and electrolytes until they are 3 weeks old, then they move outdoors and feed a grain and supplement mix.

The cattle spend as much time on pasture as we can in the favourable seasons, then hay and cover crop bales in the winter. For the final 60 days they are fed a bit more grain with their forages, this helps give that marbling in the meat without the superficial fat.

The pigs spend their time outside, with their mom's for the first 3 weeks. Then they are fed a mixture of grains and supplement and kitchen scraps (their favourite!).

WHERE DO YOU DELIVER TO?

With this launch online we are delivering to Brandon, Boissevain, Killarney, and Deloraine MB. If your are from outside of this area and interested please email us, we would love to know which area to expand into next!

HOW DOES THE DISCOUNT WORK?

By purchasing a subscription to the Monthly Meat box you pay a deposit of $50/box upfront. You then only have to pay the remaining balance on your box at delivery time. We typically sell subscriptions in 6 month blocks at this time.

WHAT IS YOUR RETURN POLICY?

We want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase. Unfortunately due to the perishable nature meat and eggs we are unable to offer a refund. We try our best to package everything in a way that ensures a safe arrival. If for some reason you are not satisfied, please reach out to us. We want to know what went wrong so we can improve our system and your experience.

WHAT OTHER PRODUCTS DO YOU CARRY?

We are looking at launching a variety of meat bundles and packages. We want everyone to experience the benefits of quality meats like they were on the farm themselves (without the work of course). We are planning Quick and Easy, Harvest Crew, Kids Choice (Madelyn and Sam loved making this one), Smoking and Grilling, Pioneer, as well as a Summer/Winter box. Let us know what catches your eye!

We have recently added goats to the farm and can source lamb as well.
