The Versatility of Chicken

Sale Off
Whole Chicken

These whole chickens are free-range and raised outdoors, with access to shelter when weather turns poor. They’re grown slowly on our own wheat-based feed, with plenty of room to roam and move, which builds real muscle and real flavor instead of soft, watery meat. After processing, each bird is water-chilled, hand-checked, bagged, and frozen. The result is a chicken that roasts properly, holds its shape, and tastes like chicken should. Birds range from 6–10 lb, are sold whole and sealed, and should be kept frozen until use.

These birds are $5.75/lb so final price is calculated upon weighing. Orders are placed with a deposit of $25-40/bird, depending on the size you select. The final balance is due upon delivery.

These half chickens come from the same free-range, slow-grown birds as our whole chickens — raised outdoors with room to move and grown large enough to develop real flavor and texture. By cutting a properly grown bird in half, you keep the bone-in richness and roast chicken experience while sizing it for smaller households and everyday meals. There’s more usable meat per plate, fewer bones to work around, and nothing feels wasted. Water-chilled, inspected, bagged, and frozen. This is roast chicken done the practical way.

These birds are $6.33/lb so final price is calculated upon weighing. Orders are placed with a deposit of $22/package. The final balance is due upon delivery.

These chicken breasts come from the same free-range, slow-grown birds as our whole and half chickens. They’re skin-on, boneless, packed two breasts per package, and frozen after processing. Because the birds are grown slowly, the meat is denser and holds moisture better than grocery-store chicken. That means less shrinkage, better texture, and cleaner flavor when cooked. These breasts fit easily into everyday meals and don’t rely on added water or heavy seasoning to taste good.

The boneless variety are 2 breasts per package and are priced at $10.35/lb. The bone in and skin on are $9.85/lb. Both have a deposit of $18/package and the final balance is due upon delivery.

These chicken thighs come from the same free-range, slow-grown birds as our whole, half, and breast cuts. They’re skin-on, bone-in, packed four thighs per package, and frozen after processing. Dark meat naturally has more flavor and stays juicy during cooking, especially when the bone is left in. Roasted in the oven, these thighs develop crisp skin, deep flavor, and tender meat even if they cook a few minutes longer than planned.

These are packaged 4/package and sold for $9.20/lb. Orders are placed with a $18/package deposit and the balance is due upon delivery.

It wouldn't be a game day, festive celebration, or party without wings done up one way or another. These are plump and meaty, perfect for over the fire, grill, or in the oven and roasted. They can be added to soup stocks for a little extra flavour and meat when you need it. These are not the skimpy wings you need mountains of to be satiated, these hit the spot.

These are packaged 6/package and priced at $6.33/lb. Orders are placed with a $10/package deposit and the balance due upon delivery.

These chicken drumsticks come from the same free-range, slow-grown birds as our whole, half, thigh, and breast cuts. They’re skin-on, bone-in, packed four per package, and frozen after processing. These drumsticks are forgiving and benefit from lower heat and a slightly longer cook, which keeps the meat juicy and tender. Seasoned simply with salt and pepper or coated with a dry rub, they roast evenly in the oven and hold up well without needing precise timing.

They come packaged 4/package and are priced at $8.05/lb. Orders are placed with a deposit of $15/package and the balance is due upon delivery.

While this isn't something you typically find in your grocery's freezers, it is something that every cook and parent needs on hand. There is nothing that chicken soup can't fix, and hardly a recipe around that doesn't call for chicken stock. You can buy stock easily enough, but finding a flavourful stock that you are comfortable with the ingredients of is another thing altogether. A carcass includes the neck, wing tips, and main body of the bird with the breasts, thighs, wings, and drumsticks removed.

Chicken bones are super easy to prepare. For great colour and flavour put them in the oven, roast them at 350 til they are to temperature. Then put them in a pot with lots of water and boil til the meat falls off the bone. Cool, and separate the meat, bones, and broth. Discard the bones (safely away from the family dog, cooked chicken bones are Not safe for dogs). We sometimes freeze the meat and broth together for easy soup, just add veggies, noodles, rice, whatever you desire or have on hand. Other times we leave them separated, the meat is super easy for any chicken based recipe.

The average carcass is a couple pounds, and yields about 6-7oz meat. They are priced at $4.00/lb, orders are placed with a $10.00/package deposit and the balance is due upon delivery.

From our Farm Straight to Your Plate

Good quality meat makes cooking easy

Variety Meat Box

The Variety Meat Box is where we started. We wanted to create a meat box that gave you the benefits of the farm; the quality of meats, the variety of cuts, and the costs. By purchasing a monthly meat box you save on the upfront cash layout and on the freezer space. You still get that farmer's market quality at your fingertips.

Each box contains a variety of beef, pork, chicken, and eggs

No one wants to eat the same thing on repeat. So we created a box that has a little bit of everything for those that want to change it up. The cuts vary each month, which keeps away the recipe dulldrums. Not sure how to cook a specific cut you've received? Just shoot us a message and we are happy to share our family favourites!

Variety of meats without the storage space

The benefit of buying a whole or half animal is that you get all the available cuts. The downside is the upfront cost and the storage space. Purchasing a subscription for the Variety Meat box gives you the benefits of a bulk meat purchase, without having to store three different types of proteins in your freezer.

Health benefits of eating a variety applies to your meats too

Different foods have different nutrients, and the only way to ensure you're getting all your nutritional needs met without supplementation is to eat a wide variety of foods. It is so easy to get into the "meal rut" of just a handful of foods but with a variety meat box you get the opportunity to explore different foods. If you're ever stuck for a recipe (or find a great one to share) check out our Pinterest page EvergreenAlley Meals!

Bulk purchase cost without the upfront investment

The Variety Meat Box is by far the best bang for your buck. Since all of the cuts in this box are raised here on the farm, butchered locally, and delivered straight to your door, more of your money is going straight into your freezer as nutritionally dense and healthy meats. Each month you get a different combination of beef, pork, chicken, as well as three dozen eggs. We do try to keep the seasons in mind, as well as holidays, but they are a surprise.

Butchered at inspected Manitoba facilities

We want to make sure that every dollar spend here ends up directly in a small family operation's pockets. Our large animals are processed in Killarney, MB at Killarney Meats. The chickens are killed at Waldner Meats in Niverville after which we piece them out ourselves in a local commercial kitchen.

Eggs washed in clean warm water, no chemicals

As eggs are laid with a natural coating to prevent the intrusion of bacterias through the porous shell we wash our eggs with simply warm water just before they are sold.

Order before Monday night to get it shipped on Wednesday.

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS IN EACH BOX?

The Summer box contains cuts specifically designed with summer in mind. They can be whipped up into a quick meal for busy days, cooked over a campfire, tossed on the BBQ, whatever your creativity can come up with.

WHAT ARE YOUR ANIMALS FED?

The livestock at Evergreen Alley are fed a combination of feeds depending on the stage of growth. Chickens are fed special feed for chicks and electrolytes until they are 3 weeks old, then they move outdoors and feed a grain and supplement mix.

The cattle spend as much time on pasture as we can in the favourable seasons, then hay and cover crop bales in the winter. For the final 60 days they are fed a bit more grain with their forages, this helps give that marbling in the meat without the superficial fat.

The pigs spend their time outside, with their mom's for the first 3 weeks. Then they are fed a mixture of grains and supplement and kitchen scraps (their favourite!).

WHERE DO YOU DELIVER TO?

With this launch online we are delivering to Brandon, Boissevain, Killarney, and Deloraine MB. If your are from outside of this area and interested please email us, we would love to know which area to expand into next!

HOW DOES THE DISCOUNT WORK?

By purchasing a subscription to the Monthly Meat box you pay a deposit of $50/box upfront. You then only have to pay the remaining balance on your box at delivery time. We typically sell subscriptions in 6 month blocks at this time.

WHAT IS YOUR RETURN POLICY?

We want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase. Unfortunately due to the perishable nature meat and eggs we are unable to offer a refund. We try our best to package everything in a way that ensures a safe arrival. If for some reason you are not satisfied, please reach out to us. We want to know what went wrong so we can improve our system and your experience.

WHAT OTHER PRODUCTS DO YOU CARRY?

We are looking at launching a variety of meat bundles and packages. We want everyone to experience the benefits of quality meats like they were on the farm themselves (without the work of course). We are planning Quick and Easy, Harvest Crew, Kids Choice (Madelyn and Sam loved making this one), Smoking and Grilling, Pioneer, as well as a Summer/Winter box. Let us know what catches your eye!

We have recently added goats to the farm and can source lamb as well.
